The "Why" Behind Our Mission...Why We Choose This Theme?
As a first-year Computer Science student at University Malaya, we have always seen Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a series of logical mathematical tools
This realization sparked the creation of our project, the Digital Literacy & AI Awareness Module, targeting to deliver AI and technology related knowledge to teens and students in school.
My Role and the Team's Vision
In this project, I serve as the Secretary and the Event Planning and Management Manager. My preparation phase has been an intensive journey of coordination. From drafting our formal proposal to managing communication between our Director, Lim Jie Shin, and our entire team of members. I’ve learned that "Social Engagement" is as much about organized teamwork as it is about the community itself
Our planned program seems to be an one-day visit, but following the GIG1005 Social Engagement project criteria, as the module designer, we are actually designing the modules to be:
- Impactful: by ensuring all our participants are able to gain actual practical skills that they can apply in their daily lives
- Sustainable: by creating modules that they can actually share the knowledge with others.
- Empowering: by teaching them to manage these tools themselves so they don't depend on us forever.
- Transformation Initiatives: by bringing new meaningful, and useful insights for the students.
- Longitudinal: if the planned session goes well, we will expand the size of the program to accommodate more students with various more interesting activities in the future slot based on school availability.
- Knowledge Transfer: by sharing AI related knowledge like prompting skills to young teens.
To deliver a better understanding on what is our program module:
1. Art of Prompting AI: Prompt Engineer Workshop : a workshop to educate teens to prompt AI as a tool and get the best outcome they need. Use AI as tool instead of replacing our job and task and explain how AI logic sequence work. Its not magic, its logic
2. Deepfake Era: Can You Trust Your Eyes? : a workshop session to teach teens to identify fake videos and fake pictures generated by AI. This is one of the way to fight against online scam and misinformation as well.
3. Future Innovator Workshop: Practical Output with AI : a workshop session to teach students useful collaboration AI tools to use in daily life
Each module comes with an hands on session to let our participants to try the things out practically instead of just listening to workshops. We believe applications in real life make knowledge last longer in human brain. The hands on part are:
1. 'Prompt Master' challenge
2. Deepfake Detective
3. AI-Genius Project
Personal Reflections
This is not the first project or event that I involved as organiser or committee, but I believe this one will be one of the most meaningful program I have ever organised. I feel a sense of excitement now
We are moving beyond being just students, we are actually becoming the one delivering knowledge in our own major of studies, executing knowledge transfer. Our goal is to prepare our own generation to get ready for the digital world, collabing with AI and more upcoming tools in the future.
