From Vision to Action: The Big Day

The journey that began with drafting proposals and navigating administrative hurdles finally culminated in our project execution at SMJK Catholic. On 8 May 2026, we successfully delivered the Digital Literacy & AI Awareness Module to 298 Form 2 students in the school's Main Hall. Seeing the hall filled with nearly 200 curious young minds transformed our months of planning into a vibrant reality.

Delivering the Modules

Our execution focused on the core mission of bridging the digital divide by moving away from seeing AI as "magic" and instead treating it as a logical, mathematical tool. We conducted the workshops as planned:

  • The Art of Prompting: Participants engaged in the 'Prompt Master' challenge, learning to use AI like Gemini and ChatGPT as "co-pilots" for productivity rather than seeing it as a replacement for human creativity.

  • Deepfake Awareness: In our 'Deepfake Detective' session, students were challenged to distinguish between real and AI-generated media, building critical mental resilience against online disinformation and scams.

  • Future Innovator Workshop: Students applied their learning in the 'AI-Genius' project, creating practical outputs like personal study schedules and posters, demonstrating that these digital tools have immediate value in their daily lives.

Overcoming Real-World Challenges

Execution is rarely without its hurdles. During the session, we encountered technical issues with the hall’s display screen and intermittent internet connectivity, which slightly disrupted the flow of our online AI tools. However, these challenges provided an invaluable lesson in adaptability. We learned that for future programs, technical setups must be finalized at least an hour in advance and offline backup materials are essential for ensuring a seamless experience.

Impact and Reflection

The results were incredibly encouraging. Our post-program assessments revealed that over 80% of participants achieved the expected increase in digital competency. Beyond the numbers, the energy in the room and the students' feedback and even suggesting even more time for Q&A, showed that we had successfully sparked a genuine interest in STEM and AI.

As an organizer, witnessing this "knowledge transfer" firsthand was the most rewarding part of the journey. We didn't just meet the criteria for our GIG1005 Social Engagement course, we empowered a new generation to navigate the digital world with confidence and critical thinking. This experience has solidified our belief that when we collaborate with technology effectively, we aren't just preparing for the future but we are building it.

Moving Forward

With the successful execution at SMJK Catholic, we have a proven model that can be scaled. We hope this module serves as a reference for future digital empowerment programs, helping more students across the country become "future-proof" in the ever-evolving age of AI.
